I recently came back from LA. I went to anime expo and a some other touristy things. There were a couple things I found interesting.
1. There was grafitti everywhere even in the middle of a nowhere freeway. I mean these are heavily trafficked how did the people who put it there not get hit while putting it up. They are truly thugs living on the edge (:P).
2. I saw a cockroach. Seriously this is the first time in my life I have seen one and I saw two coming out of the sewer in the middle of Judge John Aiso (those of you who don't know this is a street by their government buildings etc and by Tokyo town).
3. LA has a lot of towns. You name they got it. Thai town, Tokyo town, China town, Armenia town, Ethopia town etc.
4. I am not sure why I was surprised but there were a lot of hispanics and asians there. When I say that there were alot I mean a more overwhelming number than white people walking around. Which was weirddddd!
5. It takes residents of Catalina island 6 years of owning a driver lisence before they can have their own car there....well kick those kids out and ship them back to the mainland!
6. Anime expo was kind of stinky....and there was alot more cosplay than people let on... meaning I did not cosplay there on any day and I felt a little weird being in normal clothes since the majority 85% are in some type of cosplay even if its not all decked out.
7. Hollywood boulevard was scary at night and the people dressed up in costumes are there to hustle money from you. Yes batman held my arm until I agreed to give him 5 bucks. My boyfriend was about to punch him he was so pissed off.
8. The homeless people in LA are ungrateful little POS. I saw a guy go into a resteraunt come out 10 minutes later with two boxes and gave it to them explaining what was inside. As soon as he left the homeless people go on to complain about not getting their garlic bread buttered and not getting what they wanted.... Ahh the city where dreams are broken and shattered due to idiotic hopes of wanting to be famous.
9. Everything seems so shady in LA, from the little souvenir shops to the people trying to sell you crap on the streets. I mean it felt a little ummm overwhelming and 3rd worldish.
10. I would never ever go to universal studios without a front of the line pass. I can not imagine having to wait in those godawful lines for some 1-2 minute ride. Also everything in universal studios seems set on getting you wet. Terminator show was pretty cool though and so was the Transformers ride, everything else was a little underwhelming (mummy ride was cool but it was too short).
11. LA has some of the best dressed homeless people. LOL, and I say this because normally when they are you know so you can kind of avoid them, but these people you can't avoid cause they don't look it.
Even though it looks like I spent alot of time complaining here, I really had a great time. It was fun being in a different city, the food was great (mostly at in Tokyo town though because it was by our hotel).

1. One it is left to right. While I know I read left to right, it gets quite confusing when you read manga all the time right to left to have to go back to left to right.
2. Usually the feeling of the drawings are angularish or too roundish compared to Japanese manga. This complaint I guess is purely aesthetics.
3. I can not quite put my finger on it but Korean manga seems toned down violence or sexual wise. Or maybe toned down in the story I am not sure.
Either way I have read Crepuscle and Noblesse. Both have to do about vampires YAY. They are actually really good. Koreans are good at clean humor. I duno what you call it but their humor does not have to do with play on words (that can not be translated into English because it simply does not make sense), or some cultural subtext or sexual context. I like it.
Noblesse, is about a vampire that wakes up after being asleep for more than 600 (or was it 800+) years. He obviously is a badass. We meet his loyal servant who is also another badass. This manga is full of gags. In fact I think it sometimes kills serious scenes (whereas I know that there needs to be relief for extremely high tense situations, this above and far beyond what should happen), however it is a webtoon so there might not be an editor or a person to bounce these types of ideas off like in Japanese manga (that gets serialized) or something. Also i think that it has alot of similarities as far as progression goes to Bleach. For instance we start in a school and it is all silly and we have some bad guys we get a glimpse the main character is badass but we don't actually know how badass he is. Than we travel to another world (err soul society anyone>>>>>) whatever and that we have a flashback arc (which might be short). Either way I really like it I really think the creators have grown alot, the battle scenes are simply amazing compared to the first ones, and the art has improved leaps and bounds. I read all 242 chapters in a two day period so the progression in art is more startling for me than it was for others that might have been following this for awhile.
Crepuscle, the manwha is also about a vampire, we know who the big bad is (or do we). The progression here is slow. I am almost hoping they kind of speed it up. Anyways I think they could have told the story in a shorter way, but meh guess its me. There is no battles TT. I am not sure what this is? character based story...I guess. It is interesting so check it out.
OHHHHH! and the best manga I read in awhile is SHAMO. This manga is literally the AWESOME. Although I am having doubts with this new arc we can say it was the awesome but now it is turning into kind of normal boxing manga. Whatever the reason is, why I really enjoyed it, is because this is a true villain protagonist manga. Which I love and I am not talking about a ANTI-HERO here. I hope we know the difference. This guy should not even have a manga really. He is the bad of the bad, he rapes he steals, he has no morals, what is good for him one day is bad the next, this guy lives by no credo and just does what he wants. Although some might point out the three parts where you might construe kindness or something. He sells his body for his sister (whom you could say he feels guilty for driving here insane although I would argue that you are wrong that he is just bored at the moment and has nothing else better to do), he buys some old guy ramen, he tries to give the prize money to the old boxer guy and his little blind girl after beating the guy up to a bloody pulp and almost killing him.
This guys back story does not even make you feel bad (he was smart guy, who went to an elite private school (top of his class and off to Tokyo University), even when you find out that his parents were strict there is one page devoted to it, and he kills his parents with a knife and his excuse is, "I didn't think they would die from a few knicks and scratches".), even when he got raped I did not feel bad (well I did but it was more of a "oh so that happened in the plot)" well don't feel too bad the guy gets his dick bit off for trying to do him up the butt the second time. But, I mean the author or the artist is a genius any redeeming moment is subverted by an horrendous act. This guy should be in jail and locked up. He is not a psycho he is just plain evil. He knows what he is doing he just does not feel it is wrong. Anyways it is bloody but not in the way of like blood and guts and gore, it is just like fighting, think Holyland but without a nerdy-turned-cool protagonist (Holyland might be a little bloodier).
Kimi no knife. I like this. I might not like it in the future I have a bad premonition. I want the main character to turn into someone awesome or not I can not decide. This is a anti-hero story. I like these stories they are good and make you question stuff. I am not sure where this manga is going, and I feel like the author does not know either. So it kind of gives of the feeling of going nowhere in the plot at the moment. Where as in the beginning it definetly had direction and it also is a manga that could have easily ended at the first volume. For some reason it keeps going. Hmmm I hope the author can pull some stuff up because I am not even sure in what type of direction it could turn to make it longer without it just being more hitman stuff. I see where they are going and it is kind of bland and there is too many outlandish hints, that they might as well put the fact there that the person hiring them is the one that will eventually kill them (in some type of crappy game because he has alot of money or time or something, I have also thought (btw this would be even more disappointing for me that the person hiring them is the person at the top of the organization and he is just trying to weed out some people). But I guess that is all speculation because it might actually be great and be like some plan to clean up Japan of all of it's crime, I dunno.
